Description:

Did you know that people who walk on a regular basis have increased muscle strength, higher energy levels, improved health and well-being, and can helps reduce the risk of heart disease! Health professionals recommend walking at least 10,000 steps a day to achieve those benefits. The weather is getting nicer - we need to keep moving and stay hydrated! Walk your way to some amazing prizes!

Get ready to move, because May 6 will be the first ever DHGC 10,000 Step Challenge!

You will need a pedometer or activity tracker to track your steps. Apple Health, Fitbit, Garmin, Google Fit, and Samsung Health devices all allow automatic data entry. (Click on 'Trackers' to authorize). ChallengeRunner has a smartphone app as well to follow the challenge! If you input data manually, it will be on the honor system so make sure we can verify your results. If it’s not trackable, make sure to take a picture before you reset!

There are 3 ways to win:

Individual Challenge:

For each week of the challenge (4 weeks!), take 70,000 steps per week and your name will get entered in the drawing to win a Gift Card!  Submit steps daily, or submit by each Monday for the prior week. You will have 4 chances to win.

Monday May 6 to Sunday May 12 – submit your steps by Monday May 13
Monday May 13 to Sunday May 19 - submit steps by Monday May 20
Monday May 20 to Sunday May 26 - submit steps by Monday May 27
Monday May 27 to Sunday June 2 - submit steps by Monday JUne 3

Team Challenge:

The Department with the highest group average of steps (cap is 70,000 each week per employee) for the month of April will win a special prize! Sorry, participants only!

Water Challenge:

You should drink 64 oz per day for optimal health.  Each day you will be expected to honestly input the amount of ounces of water you consumed. For anyone who has reached at least 64 oz. per day every day within one week, your name will be entered in the weekly drawing to win a Gift Card!  You have 4 chances to win - either log daily or submit by each Monday for the prior week.

This challenge will last 4 weeks - beginning Monday May 6 through Sunday June 2
